WSOP Tournament Player Who Acts Out During Tournament Arrested on Terrorism Charges
While playing pokies online can be fun and entertaining, plenty of players want a bit more of a challenge, and they turn to social casino games such as poker.
Poker tournaments can be quite intense, with that much money at stake and strong players competing for the title of the best poker player. Naturally, the stress and excitement gets to some of the players, resulting in surprising, and sometimes even uncomfortable, situations.
That is what happened during the WSOP Tournament in June, as a man exhibited some questionable behaviour before he was arrested on serious terrorism charges.
It all started during the World Series of Poker Main Event that took place in Las Vegas, as a man was kicked out of the casino, forfeiting his $10,000 buy-in almost immediately. At first, the man went all-in blind before the game even started, which of course didn’t produce great results.
Later on, he stood by the poker table for and pulled his pants down, following with throwing his shoe at the dealer. At this point, the event organizers asked the player to leave.
However, his antics didn’t end there! A YouTube video showed that the same man climbing a table in the middle of the room, riling the crowds and dropping his pants yet again.
At this point, the man in question was pulled off the table and arrested. But the story doesn’t end there, as the troubled player kept acting irrationally. Approximately three weeks after the casino incident, the player was arrested again on terrorism charges, after posting some disturbing posts on social media.
Since the man was kicked out of the WSOP, he proceeded with causing trouble in different hotels across the city, which got him thrown out of those locations as well. In his threatening post, the gambler mentioned all the casinos that banned him, predicting they will be destroyed.
Once the case began to unfold, it was discovered that the man displayed erratic behaviour on numerous occasions, before and after his arrest, which led the judge to set a $150,000 bail bond. On September 10th, the player is expected to appear in court again, hopefully, bringing this curious saga to a close.
Security Issues during WSOP Tournaments
The WSOP Tournament incident raised some serious questions regarding the security levels at the casino.
It turns out, that the WSOP faced security problems in Rio earlier this year as well, as multiple participants were robbed at gun-point right outside the casino.
Respectable members of the poker community spoke up, claiming that there is a pressing need to increase security in the parking lot of the WSOP.
WSOP officials responded to those claims, reminding players that there are various security measures in place that they can sue at any time: security patrols in the parking lots, security escort available upon request, alternative payment methods that won’t require carrying large amounts of cash, and more.
What Security Measures Pokes Online Casinos Use?
Every game that requires the involvement of large sums of money is accompanied by an element of risk. Even if you choose to play online pokes in Australia, instead of physically bringing money to a land-based casino, you need to make sure your bank account is safe.
Most Aussie casinos use one of three encryption methods to protect your privet information: Secure Socket Layer (SSL), which is the most popular, is similar to Transport Layer Security (TLS) in concept. You also have the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) which adds another layer of protection to keep you as safe as possible.
But you don’t have to put all your faith in those security measures, as most prominent casinos use the services of independent organizations such as the Malta Gaming Authority and the eCOGRA.
Every once in a while, unpredictable incidents occur at land-based gambling venues, which leads players to think twice about the levels of security at major poker tournaments such as the WSOP. What do you think?
